🧱 Cubic Odyssey Server FAQ
❓ What version is my server running?
Cubic Odyssey servers run the latest available PC version from Steam by default.
Version downgrading is not supported.
If Auto Update is enabled, the server will update on game patch releases. If Update on Boot is enabled, it will update every time the server restarts.
🔧 How do I configure the server?
Server settings are controlled through:
- Basic Settings – Controls game mode, galaxy seed, max players, password, and other core options.
- Config Templates – Advanced users can create configuration file templates. These are managed through the Config Manager and persist across restarts.
⚠️ Avoid editing the configuration file manually. File edited outside of Basic Settings or templates will be overwritten when the server restarts.
🗺️ How do I change the game mode?
Servers support Creative Mode and Adventure Mode.
However:
- Once the server has been changed out of Creative Mode, you must create a new world if you want to return to Creative Mode.
- Switching back alone is not enough — the existing world retains its previous mode.
🌌 Can I set a galaxy seed?
Yes! The galaxy seed controls how the world is structured.
- By default, a random seed is used.
- You can set a custom galaxy seed in Basic Settings if you want to reproduce a known or shared layout.
🌍 Can I create a new world?
Yes, but it requires a manual step:
- Access the folder:
/Server/save_server - Either:
- Rename the folder (e.g., to
/Server/backup_save_server)
or - Delete the folder entirely
- Rename the folder (e.g., to
- Restart the server, and a brand new world will be generated.
Always back up your save first if you intend to keep it.
💾 Where is the save located?
Saves are located in:
/Server/save_server/
Inside, you’ll find:
- World data in
/save_server/0 - Character data (a file named with pure numbers)
- Blueprints, Stats, Meta
- Up to 9 automatic backup folders named
0through9, rotated by the server every few minutes
🔄 Can I use my backup on a server?
Yes! To restore a backed-up save:
- Delete or rename the existing
/Server/save_serverfolder - Upload your backup, ensuring it includes the full structure (with
0,meta, etc.) - Restart the server to load the save
This allows you to migrate single-player or other server saves easily.
🧠 How do I become an admin?
There's no admin rights feature for now.
🖥️ Is there an Admin Panel?
Currently, no built-in admin panel is available in-game, but settings can be controlled through:
- Basic Settings
- Game configuration files if templates are enabled
Keep an eye on updates for possible future admin console features.
💬 How do I join my server?
There are currently two main ways to join:
- Server Browser: Filter or scroll through until your server appears by name. It can be favorited but there's no name filter so it's just a short list.
- Lobby Key: The server logs show the Lobby Key every few seconds, it can be used in the Join Private→ Session Key menu alongside a server password, if there's one set.
If the server has a password, you'll be prompted to enter it.
🧩 Are mods supported?
As of now, mod support is not available. Cubic Odyssey is still early in its dedicated server implementation, so modding is likely to be introduced later.
🛠️ Can I restore a corrupted or old save from backups?
Yes. The server automatically creates up to 9 backup copies. You can:
- Stop the server.
- Replace
/save_server/0with one of the backup folders (e.g.,/save_server/5) - Restart the server
This effectively rolls back to a previous world state.
