How to Change the Factions on Your Squad Server
Welcome to your new game hosting adventure! If you're wondering about factions in your Squad server, you're in the right place. Factions are groups of players that represent different teams in the game. By customizing which factions appear in your game, you can add variety and make the gameplay more exciting or restrictive and set the rules better.
To configure these factions, you will be working with two main configuration files: LayerRotation.cfg and LayerVote.cfg. You can find these files as templates in the Config Manager section of your server dashboard.
Steps to Modify Factions Inside the Server Layers
Access Config Manager: Go to the Config Manager and create a new template for either LayerRotation.cfg or LayerVote.cfg, depending on your preference. Remember:
- LayerList.cfg: Uses layers in the specified order or randomizes them.
- LayerVote.cfg: Allows in-game players to vote on which layer to play.
For example, if you're working with the GooseBay_RAAS_v1 map, you might have Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) as faction 1 and Russian Ground Forces (RGF) as faction 2.
- Add Factions: Factions can be added next to each layer ID. Simply type the factions you want to specify after a space.
- Check Available Factions: Ensure that the factions you want to use are available for the specific layers. You can verify available factions for vanilla layers at SquadMaps.com by filtering the map and game mode. For example, you’ll see that Tallil_RAAS_v1 has more factions available than GooseBay_RAAS_v1.
- Update Changes: Once you’ve added all your desired factions to the corresponding Layer.cfg (either LayerRotation or LayerVote), remember to save your changes.
Restart Your Server: Finally, restart your server to apply your changes. The server should now load with the updated layer loadout.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter any issues after following the steps, keep the following in mind:
- Ensure you have selected the correct factions for the chosen layers.
- Check for any syntax errors or mistakes in your Layer files.
- Confirm that you have set the LayerRotation.cfg or LayerVote.cfg template as the "Override as Default".
- Modded layers aren't on SquadMaps.com, available factions can be asked in their workshop page or discord if they aren't disclosed or check in-game.
