How to Back Up and Load Your Game Data to Your StarRupture Server
In the harsh, bug-infested world of StarRupture, your base is your lifeline. Whether you are migrating a save from another server, uploading your single-player world, or just creating a safety net against disaster, managing your save files is a vital skill.
This guide will walk you through backing up your server, as well as the specific steps required to upload existing worlds—including a crucial "renaming trick" needed to make single-player saves work on a dedicated server.
Important: Stop Your Server First
Before modifying any files, you must shut down your server. Go to Actions > Shutdown in your control panel. Modifying files while the server is running can corrupt your data.
Part 1: How to Back Up Your Server
Follow these steps to create a safe copy of your current progress.
Shut Down Your Server: Ensure the server is offline.

Access Files: Open the File Manager in your control panel or connect via FTP/SFTP. You can follow this guide to connect: How to connect to FTP/SFTP

Navigate to the Save Directory: Go to:
/Server/StarRupture/Saved/SaveGames/
Download: You will see folders named after your game sessions. Click on the 3 dots under Action and click Download.

Part 2: How to Upload a Dedicated Server Save
If you are moving a save from another dedicated server to this one, the process is straightforward.
Shut Down Your Server by going to Actions > Shutdown.

Navigate to Save Directory: Go to
/Server/StarRupture/Saved/SaveGames/via File Manager or FTP/SFTP.
Upload: Upload the save folder from your previous server into this directory. If you're using File Manager, drag and drop your backup save folder on the bubble above the path.

Restart: Start your server by clicking Actions > Restart.

Load the Save:
Launch StarRupture and click Server Manager.

Enter your Server IP, Port, and Admin Password.
Click Load Game, select the save you just uploaded, and launch.

Part 3: How to Upload a Single Player Save (Important Fix Included)
Single-player saves work slightly differently from server saves. To make them load, you must perform a specific renaming step.
Shut Down Your Server by going to Actions > Shutdown.

Locate Local Saves: On your PC, navigate to your Steam userdata folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\[YourSteamID3]\1631270\remote\Saved\SaveGames\Upload to Server:
Connect to your server via FTP/SFTP or File Manager.
Upload your specific save folder into
/Server/StarRupture/Saved/SaveGames/.

The "AutoSave0" Fix:
Open the save folder you just uploaded on the server.
Local games often start counting at
AutoSave1, but dedicated servers look forAutoSave0to launch correctly.Find your latest save files (Example, if you have Autosaves1 to 3, then the latest one is
AutoSave3.savandAutoSave3.met).Rename them to
AutoSave0.savandAutoSave0.met.

Restart & Load:
Start your server by going to Actions > Restart.

Launch the game, go to Server Manager, connect with your credentials, click Load Game, and select your save.

Crucial Note: You Must Manually Load on Restart Currently, StarRupture dedicated servers do not automatically load the last save after a restart. Every time you restart your server, you must open the game, access the Server Manager, and manually click Load Game to bring your world online.
Troubleshooting
"I uploaded my local save, but it starts a new game!"
Solution: You missed the renaming step in Part 3. The server defaults to loading
AutoSave0. If your local save is namedAutoSave1(or higher), the server won't find it and will start fresh. Rename your latest.savand.metfiles toAutoSave0.
"I can't find my local save folder."
Solution: Press
Win + Ron your keyboard and paste this command:explorer "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Steam\userdata". From there, open your user ID folder and look for the folder1631270(the AppID for StarRupture).
"The Server Manager won't load."
Solution: Sometimes the server process hangs. Go to your server panel, then go to Actions and Restart the server to refresh the connection, then try accessing the Server Manager again immediately.
Conclusion
Your industrial empire is now secure! Whether you're backing up your hard work or bringing a local world online for friends to join, you now have full control over your server's data.
Remember the golden rule of StarRupture hosting: Always check the Server Manager after a restart. It only takes a few seconds to load your save, but it ensures you pick up exactly where you left off.
