How to Change the World Settings on Your Aska Server

As Jarl of your own Aska server, you have the power to shape the very earth your tribe walks on. Do you want harsher winters to test your clan's resolve? A land with fewer predators for a more peaceful building experience? Customizing your world settings allows you to create the exact saga you want to play.

Crucial Warning: This Process Requires a World Reset Before we begin, it's essential to understand that changing these core world settings requires generating a brand new world. Your existing save file and all its progress will be deleted to make way for the new one. This process does not modify your current world.

This guide will walk you through switching to Custom mode, choosing your new world parameters, and generating that new world on your server.

Steps to Change World Settings

1. Set Game Mode to Custom: Go to Basic Settings and set the Game Mode to Custom.

2. Configure World Generation Preferences: Choose your desired settings, including terrain style, volume of enemies, herbivores, and starting season. After making your adjustments, make sure to click Update Server.

3. Shut Down Your Server: Before making any changes to the server files via FTP, it's crucial to shut down your server. Go to Actions then Shutdown. This helps prevent any potential corruption of server files that may occur if the server is running during modifications.

4. Connect via FTP: For detailed instructions on connecting through FTP, check out our guide here. Once connected, navigate to the save folder located at /AppData_LocalLow_Sand Sailor Studio_Aska_data_server_.

It's important to connect to FTP to locate the folder as this doesn't show on the Server Panel's File Manager

5. Delete the Save Folder: Within the save folder, look for the folder named savegame_XXXX_XXXXXXXXX and delete it and the meta file in it. 

    

This is necessary for the game to generate a new world based on your custom settings.

6. Restart Your Server: Finally, restart your server by going to Actions then Restart to generate a new world based on your selected settings.

The server will now start up and generate a brand new world based on your custom settings.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues, consider the following:

• Running the Server During Deletion: Deleting the save folder while the server is running can corrupt the files, preventing your server from starting up properly.
• Not Deleting the Savefile: If you change the world generation settings but do not delete the existing save file, the game will not be able to generate a new world based on your new preferences.
• Incorrect Game Mode: Make sure you set the game mode to Custom. If it remains set to Normal, the game will ignore the new settings.
