How to Create a Mod Steam Collection
Create and publish a Steam Workshop mod collection: step-by-step, add subscribed items, set visibility, copy the ID and share with players.
Creating a Steam Workshop collection is the easiest way to group multiple mods together so players or a game server can subscribe and download them all at once. Below is a simple, step-by-step guide for beginners to create a collection directly from Steam (either the Steam client or the web browser version).
Create a Collection from Steam
It's important to mention that you may do this with any game available on Steam, however not all of them are compatible with collections. We'll use Garry's Mod as an example.
Open the game's Workshop page:
Open Steam and click on Library to see all your games. In here, select the game and click on the Workshop option in the section below the “Play” button.
Alternatively, in the Steam client or a web browser go to Community > Workshop, then choose the game you want to mod. This opens the game's Workshop hub with mods and other content.

Go to Collections:
Locate the Browse option at the top and select Collections. Once here, click on the Create Collection option on the right.

Create a new collection:
In here you need to fill your collection details such as name, image and collection type.

Add items to your collection:
Select the Subscribed Items panel to see all the downloaded mods in your account and add them by clicking on the + icon. Once done, click Save and Continue.

Make sure each mod you add is already published on the Workshop and available.
Publish the Collection:
You can upload a thumbnail image and set tags to make the collection easier to find. After everything is set, make sure to publish the Collection to make it available.

Side note Choose the visibility: Public (anyone can see & subscribe), Unlisted (only people with the link can see it), or Private (only you). If you want a server or other players to download it automatically, set it to Public.
That's it, now you have a public collection for your desired mods. Share it with anyone that will be playing with you, so all have the same mods installed.
Suggestions:
Copy the collection URL or ID
After publishing, open the collection page and copy the web URL. The numeric ID at the end of the URL is the collection ID (you’ll need this for game servers).
Test subscription and server use
Try subscribing to the collection with a Steam account to ensure the mods download correctly. For servers, follow the correct instructions to load the ID and restart the server so it downloads the mods.
Quick Notes
- Make sure every mod in the collection is published and not removed by its author.
- If load order matters for your game, include notes in the collection description or follow the server’s recommended ordering method.
- Allow a few minutes after publishing for Steam to propagate the new collection so servers and other users can see it.
Troubleshooting
If something isn't working, check the common issues below and how to fix them.
- Always confirm that the game supports workshop collections, otherwise they won't be loaded.
Other players or the server can’t find or subscribe to the collection.
Fix: Make sure the collection is set to Public and that you actually clicked Publish. If it’s Unlisted or Private, the server may not be able to access it.
Mods inside the collection don’t download on the server.
Fix:
- Confirm each mod in the collection is published and currently available on Steam Workshop.
- Check that the collection contains the correct items (no missing or removed mods).
- Ensure your server control panel has the correct collection ID entered.
- Restart the server after adding the collection ID so it can fetch the mods.
Collection is published but still invisible to the server or other users.
Fix: Wait a few minutes for Steam to update. Also try viewing the collection in a private browser window or while logged out to confirm visibility. If it still doesn’t show, double-check the visibility setting and republish if necessary.
A mod in the collection is removed or broken.
Fix: Open each mod’s Workshop page and confirm it’s still available. If a mod is removed by the author or flagged, it won’t download. Replace removed mods or remove them from the collection.
If you still can’t resolve the problem, collect the following information before contacting support: the collection URL/ID, the game server name, screenshots of your collection visibility settings, and any error messages from your server console. This helps support fix your issue faster.
