How to Join Your Minecraft Java Server
Step-by-step guide to connect to your Minecraft servers: find IP/port, match edition and version, add server, join, troubleshoot.
Welcome to PingPlayers! This guide will walk you through the simple steps to connect to your hosted Minecraft Java server. If you recently bought a server and aren't sure what to do next, follow the steps below — they're written assuming you're new to this.
Before you start
Make sure you know which edition of Minecraft you're using (Java Edition or Bedrock). Servers are edition-specific: a Java client cannot join a Bedrock server and vice versa. Also keep your game updated to the same version as the server (or a supported version).
Where to find your server address
Log in to your PingPlayers control panel. You will see your server's IP address and port on the server details page. Copy them exactly — you can paste them into Minecraft when adding the server.
Step-by-step: Connect to your server
- Open the game.
Launch Minecraft (the edition that matches your server).
- Select the Multiplayer option.
From the main menu click "Multiplayer".
Either select the Direct Connect option or the Add Server option.
Direct Connect will let you join immediately for a one-time connection. Add Server saves the server to your server list so you can join later with a click.
Add the server IP + Port.
Paste the IP and port from your server panel at “My Servers” > “Manage Server”.
Example: 205.209.116.30:11192
Click Join Server.
If you've used the Add Server option, save it first and then select it from your list to click "Join Server".
Quick tips
- Copy and paste the IP/port from the panel to avoid typos.
- Check which Minecraft version the server runs (shown in the panel) and match your client version.
- If your server uses a custom domain, use that domain instead of the raw IP.
Troubleshooting
If you can’t connect, try these common fixes:
- Wrong IP or Port: Double-check the IP and port in your server control panel. Remove extra spaces and ensure you include the colon between IP and port.
- Server is Stopped in the panel: Open your PingPlayers control panel and confirm the server status. If it shows "Stopped", click on the “Actions” option on the left panel and select “Restart”. Wait for the server to fully boot before joining.
- Version mismatch: Make sure your Minecraft client's version matches the server version. Switch your launcher profile to the correct version.
- Whitelist or banned: If the server has a whitelist, ensure your username is added.
- Server full: If all slots are occupied, try again later or increase the server slot count from your panel if your plan allows it.
- Plugins or mod issues: If the server uses mods or plugins, make sure your client has matching mods (for modded servers) or that incompatible plugins are not causing errors.
- Network issues: Try restarting your router or switching networks. If you still have problems, run a simple ping or ask support to check network reachability.
