How to Upload a Custom World to Your Runescape Dragonwilds Server
Sometimes the default server settings aren't exactly what you're looking for, or perhaps you've already started an epic journey in single-player that you want to move online with your friends.
Because Runescape Dragonwilds servers automatically load the most recently modified save file, transferring a custom world from your PC to your dedicated server is incredibly straightforward. This guide will walk you through creating a world with your preferred settings locally and uploading it to your server.
Step 1: Create the World Locally
First, you need to generate the save file on your own computer.
Launch Runescape Dragonwilds on your PC.
Create a new single-player/local world, applying any custom rules or settings you desire.
Fully enter the world to ensure it generates properly.
Safely exitthe world back to the main menu. This action finalizes the .sav file on your computer.
Step 2: Locate the Local Save File on Your PC
Now, you need to find the file the game just created.
On your PC, press the Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog.
Type %LOCALAPPDATA%\RSDragonwilds\Saved\SaveGames and hit Enter.
Locate the .sav file corresponding to the world you just created. Keep this folder open.
Step 3: Upload the World to Your Server
Next, we transfer the file to your dedicated server.
Go to your Server Paneland click on the Actions tab and select Shutdown. (Always stop your server before modifying files!)
Navigate to the File Manager andgo to the matching path on the server: RSDragonwilds/Saved/Savegames
Upload your local .sav file from your PC directly into this server folder by dragging and dropping it into the upload bubble above the folder path.
Important Reminder for Server Names: Before uploading, it is highly recommended to rename your local .sav file so that it matches the "World Name" you configured in your server's Basic Settings. If the .sav file name is different from your Basic Settings, the multiplayer browser will display your server under the saved file's name rather than the name you intended.
Step 4: Restart the Server
Go back to the Actions tab and restart the serverby going to Actions> Restart.
Because Runescape Dragonwilds is programmed to load the most recently modified .sav file, the server will instantly detect your newly uploaded custom world and load it as the active session.
Troubleshooting
My server name changed in the server browser!
As mentioned in the reminder above, the game pulls the server name directly from the save file. If your uploaded .sav file is named "MyEpicWorld.sav", your server will show up as "MyEpicWorld" in the browser, ignoring your Basic Settings. To fix this, shut down the server, rename the .sav file in the File Manager to match your desired server name, and start it back up.
The server is still loading the old world instead of my custom one.
The server strictly loads the most recently modified.sav file. Sometimes, transferring files can mess with the timestamp, causing the server to think the old default world is newer. To force it to load your custom world, shut down the server, delete the old .sav file from the RSDragonwilds/Saved/Savegames folder (or move it to a backup folder), leave only your newly uploaded custom .sav file, and restart.
The server crashes immediately after startup.
This usually happens if the save file became corrupted during the transfer or if it wasn't saved properly. Ensure you fully exited the world to the main menu on your PC before copying the file. Alternatively, this can happen if your local game client is on a newer update version than the server. Make sure your server is fully updated!
I can't find the %localappdata% folder on my PC.
The AppData folder is hidden by default in Windows. To see it, open your File Explorer, click on the View tab at the top, and check the box that says Hidden items. You can always use the command “%LOCALAPPDATA%\RSDragonwilds\Saved\SaveGames” to open it directly.
Conclusion
Your custom world is now live and ready for multiplayer! Whether you wanted tweaked difficulty settings or just wanted to show off the base you built offline, your friends can now join in on the adventure.
If you decide to switch back to a different world later, you can simply remove this .sav file or upload a different one. If you encounter any issues getting your world to load, please reach out to our support team for assistance!
