How to join to your Romestead server
Learn how to join your Romestead server with PingPlayers using IP:Port, including setup steps, connection tips, and common troubleshooting fixes.
Welcome — you’ve got a Romestead server running with PingPlayers. This guide walks you through joining it from the game. Some steps are very simple; others include extra tips if you’re less comfortable with game servers. If you know your server’s IP:Port you’re already most of the way there.
Quick overview: What is IP:Port?
IP:Port is how the game finds your server on the internet. The IP is the address (numbers like 203.0.113.45) and the port is a number after a colon (for example 203.0.113.45:12345). In your PingPlayers control panel we show the full IP:PORT value you should use.

Step-by-step: Join the Romestead server
Open the Multiplayer menu:
From the main menu of Romestead click Multiplayer > Join Multiplayer. This takes you to the screen where you can join a server directly.
Create a character (if you do not already have one):
If this is your first time playing Romestead on this account, choose Create New in the game and finish the customization. You won’t be able to join multiplayer until a character exists.
Alternatively, in the main menu go to Single player > Create New
Open Advanced or LAN options:
Select your desired character and choose the Advanced/LAN option (this is where Romestead lets you enter an IP:Port directly).
Paste the IP and PORT into the game fields:
Go to your PingPlayers control panel and copy the IP and the PORT we provide for that server. The control panel shows them clearly — use copy/paste to avoid typos.- Paste the IP into the game's IP field.
- Paste the PORT into the game's PORT field.
Double-check both values, especially the port number. Typing errors are the most common cause of connection failures.

- Connect to your server:
Click the Connect button. The game will attempt to join your server if it is online and the values are correct.
If you've set a password on your server, you'll be prompted with a new window to enter it.

That's it! Now you can share your friends your server details for them to join you on your journey.
Notes about server visibility
Romestead currently does not include a public server browser. You must connect via IP:Port or use LAN/Advanced direct connect.
Romestead does not have a built-in favorites system to save servers. However, the previously used IP and port are usually auto-completed on future joins, making reconnecting easier.
Troubleshooting — common problems and fixes
- Server is offline
Check your PingPlayers control panel to confirm the server status is running. If it’s stopped, click Actions→ Restart from the left panel and wait until the panel shows it’s ready.
- Wrong IP or port
Re-copy the IP and port from the control panel. Avoid manual typing if possible. If you copied the combined IP:PORT string, split them correctly.
- Game version or mods mismatch
If the server runs a different version or different mods than your client, the game may refuse the connection. Make sure your game and server are updated and, if not, enable Update on Boot to force an update on Restart.
- Private server with a password
If you set a server password in the control panel, the game will prompt for it when you connect. Enter the password exactly as configured (passwords are case-sensitive).
