How to add Admins and Super Admins on Your VEIN Server

In a world overrun by the infected, your safe house needs a leader. As an admin on your VEIN server, you get the power to protect your community, manage players, and ensure your sanctuary remains safe.

The game features two levels of authority: Admins, who can manage gameplay and players, and Super Admins, who have all admin powers plus the ability to promote or demote other admins. This guide will show you how to set up both roles.

Step-by-Step Guide in Becoming an Admin

Part 1: Get Your SteamID64

To become an admin, you first need your unique SteamID64. This is a 17-digit number that permanently identifies your Steam account.

1. Open your Steam profile.
2. Go to a trusted lookup site like steamid.io
3. Enter your Steam username or profile URL into the search box.

4. Copy the number listed as steamID64 (it will look like 76561198000000001). This is the ID you will use.

Part 2: Assigning Admin Roles

You have two methods for assigning admins. Basic Settings is the easiest for one person, while the Config Manager is required for multiple.

Method 1: Using Basic Settings (For a Single Admin)

This is the simplest way to make yourself the main Super Admin.

1. In your PingPlayers control panel, go to Basic Settings.

2. Find the Super Admin Steam ID and Admin Steam ID fields.

3. Paste your 17-digit SteamID64 into the Super Admin Steam ID field. (Leaving the other field blank is fine).

4. Save your settings by clicking on Update Server.

5. Go to Actions > Restart to apply the changes.

And there you have it! When you rejoin the server, you will have Super Admin powers.

Method 2: Using the Config Manager (For Multiple Admins)

If you want to add a team of admins, you must use the game.ini file.

1. In your control panel, go to the Config Manager tab.

2. Create a new custom config for game.ini by clicking Create new config.

• Issue: "I added my ID, but I'm still not an admin in-game!"
  • Solution: This has two common causes:
    1. You didn't restart: The server only loads admin permissions on startup. You must restart the server after saving your changes.
    2. You used the wrong ID: Make sure you used your SteamID64, which is a 17-digit number (e.g., 76561198000000001), not your custom Steam name or URL.
• Issue: "I used Basic Settings for my friend, but it's not working!"
  • Solution: The Basic Settings fields can be unreliable when a game.ini file is active. Furthermore, they are often limited to a single ID. If you need to add more than one admin, you must use Method 2 (Config Manager) and add all your admins there.

• Issue: "My game.ini file isn't working for multiple admins!"

  • Solution: Check your formatting. VEIN uses a unique system. Do not use commas. The first admin gets the AdminSteamIDs= key, and every additional admin needs their own line starting with +AdminSteamIDs=.

Correct: 

AdminSteamIDs=ID1 
+AdminSteamIDs=ID2

Incorrect: AdminSteamIDs=ID1,ID2
