How to Connect to Your Starbound Server Using RCON

Connecting to your Starbound server using RCON (Remote Console) is a breeze! All you need are 3 things: the server's IP address, the RCON port and your custom RCON password. That's it! No complicated setups required.

To connect, you can use any RCON client such as Simple SourceDS RCON or rcon-cli.
After downloading and installing your chosen client, follow these simple steps below.

Steps to Connect with RCON

First of all, we need to gather our server details from the website. Go to “My Servers” > “Manage Server” to open your server's configuration panel.
Once here, you may see the server's IP+Port listed in the middle of the page and the RCON port listed below it, under the “Server Ports” section.
 

1. Open the server's Basic Settings:

   Click on the “Basic Settings” on the left panel, in the server's configuration panel and locate the RCON options.

2. Find your RCON details:

   Locate the 2 variables called “Run RCON Service” and “RCON Password”. Set the Run RCON Service as True and feel free to set a custom RCON password for your server.

   

   

   
   Make sure to save the changes by clicking on at the top right.
    

3. Restart your server:

   Click on the “Actions” option on the side panel and select “Restart” to apply those changes in.

   

    

4. Open your RCON client:

   Open you downloaded RCON software, in this case we'll use the rcon-cli one recommended above.

   • Enter the IP address of your Starbound server.
   • Input the RCON port listed.

   • Enter the RCON password you set in your server settings.

     

      

5. Enter your desired command:

   You can use the “help” command to see all available commands for the game, however not all of them are available for RCON as they either require admin permissions or a in-game character to link those commands.
   
   It's not required to use the “ / ” to execute commands on RCON, just type the command's name.
   
   It's important to note that RCON commands for Starbound are limited, as the game doesn't offer many options using the RCON console.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues, here are a few things to check:

• Wrong RCON Password: Double-check the password you entered. It must match what you set in your server's configuration.
• Wrong RCON Port: Make sure that you are using the correct RCON port instead of the default one.
• RCON Option Not Enabled: Ensure that the “Run RCON Service” option is enabled in your server’s configuration panel.
