Rust is a multiplayer survival game developed and published by Facepunch Studios. It launched into Early Access in 2013 and hit full release in 2018, growing into one of the most-played survival games on Steam with a brutal, high-stakes PvP loop at its core.
The gameplay loop starts at fresh spawn with a rock and a torch. You gather resources, research blueprints, and progress from a twig shelter through stone walls to a sheet-metal base. Most of the tension comes from other players: online raids, offline raids, roof camping, and the constant risk of getting cleaned out the moment you leave your base undefended.
Sessions on Rust run long and revolve around the wipe cycle. Most servers wipe monthly or weekly, resetting the map and blueprints so everyone starts even. On a private dedicated server your group sets the gather rates, the wipe schedule, and the rules, so the grind matches how your crew actually wants to play.
