SCUM is an open-world survival game developed by Gamepires and published by Jagex. It launched into Early Access in 2018 and is known for its deep metabolism and survival simulation, where everything from your character calorie intake to fame points shapes how you play.
The core loop blends hardcore survival with brutal PvP. You scavenge a massive island for gear, manage hunger, hydration, and injuries in detail, dodge roaming AI puppets and mechanized sentries, then test your loadout against other players in firefights and base raids. Crafting, base building, and vehicle hunting all feed into a long progression curve.
SCUM sessions run long and reward planning over twitch reflexes. On a private dedicated server, your group sets the loot rates, raiding windows, and rules, and the island stays live around the clock so anyone can log in and keep building without waiting for a host.
